In Italy, there are four wineries that are often compared with the five famous wineries in France. Their wines are of excellent quality and have been selected into the "Top 100 World Wines". As synonymous with Italy's top wines, they happen to end in the same sound. Therefore, they are collectively referred to by the industry as the four "elegant" wines in Italy - Sassicaia, Solaia, Ornellaia and Chia. Gaja's popularity and flavor have gradually surpassed Wudabao.
Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is located in the Tuscany region of Italy. The manor insists on making wines of excellent quality as its primary pursuit. Ornalaya Winery is located at the foot of the mountains in the Bolgheri region of Livorno Province, west of Tuscany, facing the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its proximity to the sea, cool sea breezes caress the vineyards of Ornalaya Winery throughout the summer. The soil here is mainly alluvial soil and volcanic rock. The unique terroir and unique microclimate create an excellent growing environment for the winery’s grapes.
The winemaking philosophy of Onalaya Winery is based on the belief that wines must faithfully represent the characteristics of the local terroir. Compliance with this unique terroir concept is also firmly embedded in all aspects and processes of wine making, such as limiting production to ensure the highest quality, paying attention to every detail, insisting on hand-picked selection and small-batch fermentation and aging. Ornellaia Winery was founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori. In 1985, the winery began producing its first vintage. In 1991, Michel Rolland became the winemaking consultant of Ornellaia Winery. In 2002, Ornellaia Winery was purchased by the Robert Mondavi Company in California, USA. Later, Mondavi invited the famous Frescobaldi Group to jointly manage Ornellaia and several other Italian wineries. Zhuang, and each holds 50% of the shares. In 2005, the Frescodie family spent huge sums of money to buy out all the remaining shares of Ornaya and have been operating it to this day. In this way, Ornellaia returned to Italian hands.
