"Rokko Mountain Pure Malt Whisky Smoky Edition" is a whisky designed for smoky flavor lovers. It combines the raw liquor distilled in Rokko Mountain, Japan, and the raw liquor on the banks of the River Avon in Speyside, Scotland. It exudes the earthy scent of campfire smoke and peat, and the sweetness of the caramel malt and the rich smoky flavor are impressive, and the aroma of orange peel can be felt occasionally. The peat smoke and slightly bitter taste similar to dark chocolate make this the single malt whisky with the strongest smokiness among the Rokksan Distillery’s whiskies.
[One of the highest whisky distilleries in Japan - Rokksan Distillery]
Rokksan Distillery was established in 2020. It is located on the top of Mount Rokksan at an altitude of about 800 meters. It is currently one of the highest whisky distilleries in Japan. It was formerly a mountain recreation facility. After renovation, it was equipped with professional distiller from Slovenia and carried out secondary distillation. The whole process adheres to the principles of manual and small batch brewing, with an annual output of only about 11,000 liters. Coupled with the aging warehouse that can only accommodate 400 barrels, Rokksan whisky is extremely valuable in the market.
The most unique thing about Rokko Mountain Whisky is that it breaks away from the stereotype of "Japanese whiskey = elegant and gentle". It uses matured peat liquor imported from Scotland, blended and distilled in Rokko Mountain, showing a strong peat smoked characteristic, with the aroma of herbs, smoked malt and sea salt, and a steady and long aftertaste, full of strong European personality, but not losing balance. This hybrid style that combines Japanese brewing technology with the Scottish terroir spirit has attracted drinkers who love heavy-flavored whiskeys, and has also become a sought-after object for high-end bars and collectors.
