Toraya Honten Co., Ltd. was founded in 1788 in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. At that time, the brewery began brewing sake using one of the seven famous waters in Utsunomiya (Niji no I). Currently, the brewery's representative products, Nanamizu (pure rice sake) and Kiku (honjozo sake), are shipped mainly from Tochigi Prefecture to other prefectures and overseas. For many years, the brewery has been brewed by the Echigo tofu, but about 10 years ago, the current tofu (Mr. Tenmanya) took the lead and adhered to the spirit of "Challenge & Change", bringing out the characteristics of sake rice to the extreme and bringing out the "flavor of rice", and continued to brew Japanese sake that continues to evolve with various brewing techniques.

Toraya Honten's sake won the highest award "Trophy Award" in the Junmai Daiginjo category in its first IWC in 2017. It has won awards from 2017 to 2022. The sake entered in 2017 was "Kiku Junmai Daiginjo ~ Tochigi Red Kiku", which is brewed with sake rice developed in Tochigi Prefecture and two yeasts produced in Tochigi Prefecture. Mr. Tenmanya has a unique understanding and application of yeast based on his many years of brewing experience. Nanamizu's sake has also won many awards.
