【Smokehead】

Smokehead was founded in 2006 as an independent bottling brand under the Ian Macleod Group. Smokehead offers a range of non-age-statement whiskies, as well as the classic Smokehead 18 Year Old (now discontinued). Smokehead whisky is renowned for its heavy peat smoke flavor, which is highly favored by some peat enthusiasts. However, the base whisky for all Smokehead expressions is sourced exclusively from an anonymous Islay distillery. Despite numerous rumors circulating, Smokehead has remained tight-lipped and has never disclosed the true origin of its base whisky. 　　

In July 2022, Smokehead announced the launch of a brand-new whisky—Smokehead Unfiltered. This is a non-age-statement, non-matured peated single malt whisky, with its base spirit sourced from an unnamed distillery on Islay.

The term “Unfiltered” refers to non-chill filtration, meaning the whisky is not filtered through a chill filter before bottling. While this practice is now commonplace in whisky production, SU is indeed a non-chill filtered whisky. However, Smokehead has taken an unconventional approach by directly incorporating “non-chill filtered” into the whisky's name.
