ZTUS037-Verite La Muse 2014 Sonoma County
$1980/btl

Verite Winery, located in Sonoma County, California, is a boutique winery.
Verite is a winery under the Jackson Family Wines group. The name "Verite" means "truth" in French, signifying that the winery's wines faithfully reflect the terroir of the region. The winery's winemaker is Pierre Seillan, a renowned winemaker with 22 years of experience in Bordeaux, France, who has served as winemaker and technical advisor for seven Bordeaux wineries in appellations including Saint-Emillon and Haut-Medoc. In the 1990s, Celine, then a winemaker at a Bordeaux winery, met Jess Jackson, president of the Jackson Family Wines. The two hit it off immediately, and Celine quickly accepted Jess's invitation to come to Sonoma County to produce high-quality wines. Through their joint efforts, Château Veritas released its first vintage in 1998. For many years, the winery has adhered to a winemaking philosophy that interprets the truth of the soil and showcases its unique terroir.

The 2014 La Muse (2,800 cases ) is a legendary effort. The wine offers an opaque purple color and a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberry, incense, Asian spice, cocoa, plum, and a touch of chocolate and barrique. On the palate, more cassis and blackberry come to the forefront. The wine is unctuous, with adequate acidity and a stunning energy underneath the massive fruit and body. This is a spectacularly fragrant and, at the same time, dense wine, with enough structure (somewhat surprising in this vintage) to last 35-45+ years. The final blend was 88% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec.

A huge, opulent wine, the 2014 La Muse wraps around the palate with tonsof super-ripe dark red fruit, chocolate, spice and menthol. La Muse oftenshuts down after bottling, but the 2014 is still remarkably intense andvoluptuous, with soft contours, silky tannins and exceptional balance. Thepurity of the flavors here is remarkable.
