Introduction: Peat's Beast is a single malt whiskey brand owned by British independent bottler Fox Fitzgerald. As we can tell from the name, this brand of whiskey has a heavy peat flavor. Fox Fitzgerald, established in 2010, is not an independent bottler with a long history, but its founders Eamonn Jones and Aidan Smith are both veteran whiskey industry insiders with 30 years of experience. Both of them have worked for Whyte & Mackay, Eamonn Jones He once served as a regional sales manager, responsible for the sales of brands such as Dalmore and Jura. A relatively high-quality IB like Peat's Beast provides more choices for whiskey lovers and is a very good supplement to OB. Peat's Beast Single Malt Whiskey 46% comes from a mysterious distillery in Scotland. A light, young, extremely peated whiskey. It has the rampant smokiness you'd expect from a whiskey called Beastly, along with a pleasant citrusy fresh fruit flavor. The packaging is also eye-catching, with a scary monster and an intentionally burnt label.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Top notes are light and smoky. The middle note has soft tobacco aroma, dried straw, milk sugar and a hint of barley sugar sweetness, and the base note has the sweet aroma of lemon, pear and sucrose.
Taste: quite soft, with silky malt aroma and caramel, like eating a piece of smoky cream cake.
Finish: Finish with hints of sage, oak, vanilla, milk chocolate and white pepper.
Overall: This is not a predominantly peated whiskey. It looks aggressive but is actually an approachable peated bourbon barrel whiskey. The light smoky aroma is very delicate, with hints of milk sugar and sweet honey. The smoke rolls over the tongue, transforming into herbal and woody flavors with a hint of citrus and more honey.
