【The Grand Jury Europeen 1982 Tasting 2nd place, just lose to Pichon Lalande】
【Bordeaux's Terroir-oriented watchmaker】
【Sociando-Mallet | Civilian version of Latour】
【Robert Parker praises】
【James Suckling 95pts】【Falstaff 93pts】
【Robert Parker 92pts】【Decanter 90pts】
【Vinous 90pts】【Vivino 4.0】
Flavor: The wine is full-bodied, with aromas of blackberries and cranberries, as well as tobacco, smoke and spicy black currants. The flavor is rich and complex. The 2014 wine is firm, bright, crisp and fresh, with ample tannins. And blends perfectly with the oak, making the wine more balanced and complex over time. Robert Parker has always praised Sociando-Mallet, and even British wine master Richard Bampfield MW said it has unquestionable quality. At this price, you can taste almost the taste of a classified chateau, and the price/performance ratio is quite high. Delicious and classic, it goes well with beef and grilled lamb chops.

Chateau Sociando-Mallet is a very legendary winery. Its history can be traced back to the early 17th century, and its first owner was a local nobleman named Sociando. Later, it changed hands several times. After the French Revolution, it was purchased by a naval colonel named Mallet and has since been renamed Chateau Sociando-Mallet. After Mallet passed away, it changed hands several times and was bought by the current operator, Jean Gautreau, in 1969. The original dilapidated winery was renovated, new buildings were built, more vineyards were purchased, and many new oak trees have been installed so far. Barrels and equipment, output has also been significantly improved.
Sociando Mallet's recognized high quality and excellent price/performance ratio have always made him one of the treasures amongst experienced wine lovers. The most talked about wine is the 1982 vintage that beat out 100 Bordeaux reds in The Grand Jury Europeen, losing only to Chateau Pichon Lalande to take the runner-up spot! The 1996 vintage even won the championship! Since then, the fame of this wine has not diminished, and of course, it has also been recognized by the high scores of the major wine critics for many years.

The winery was founded in 1633 by a local nobleman, Sossiondo. Whether due to a similarity or a misinterpretation, the name later became Sociando. In 1831, the owner, Marie-Elisabeth Alaret, married a sailor, Achille Mallet, and the family name was added, becoming Sociando Mallet. In 1969, Jean Gautreau took over the estate. At the time, the estate was in dire straits, with only five hectares of vineyards remaining and the buildings in disrepair. However, Jean had a keen eye for the terroir, believing that its high proportion of gravel allowed for a higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon to be grown than in the Haut Médoc. Today, the winery has grown to over 80 hectares and is managed by his daughter, Sylvie. In fact, the vineyards are very similar to Saint-Éstère-Montrose, so wine critics often describe it as having Saint-Éstère notes. Robert Parker even called it a "low-brow Latour/Montrose" and called it one of the most age-resistant Bordeaux wines.
