Rheinhessen is the region with the largest wine production and planting area in Germany. Most of the vineyards are located on the west bank of the Rhine, on a very steep slope and surrounded by mountains. The soil is mainly loess and limestone, and in some areas there are even volcanic rocks and red slates, which can produce the most full-bodied Riesling liquor. Nierstein

The most famous production area in Rheinhessen. The soil is dominated by red slate-like sandy clay, and the local wines are thick and have a very strong mineral flavor.

Located between Worms and Alzey, south of Rheinhessen, is also a prime location.

Grape Variety

Muller-Thurgau

It is a grape variety bred from a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royale. Has a sweet peach aroma and low acidity character. Today, it is often blended with other varieties to make Liebfraumilch.

Silvaner

A small, aromatic grape variety that ripens fairly easily, with flavors of passion fruit, peach, orange blossom and flint and steel. It is worth mentioning that Rheinhessen is the production area with the largest Silvaner planting area in the world.

Grauburgunder

Grauburgunder is the German name for Pinot Gris. It is more often brewed in stainless steel barrels to maintain a fresher fruity taste. Compared with the rich French Pinot Gris and the light Italian Pinot Grigio, Grauburgunder has a rich fruity and sweet aroma, with fruit flavors of pear, honeydew melon and peach.

Liebfraumilch

Liebfraumilch is a fairly approachable wine. Rising around the 20th century, it has low alcohol content, sweetness (sugar content reaches 18-40 grams), and is mainly used for export. Only Riesling Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner Silvaner or Kerrner QBA grade grapes can be used. Rheinhessen is its birthplace. church.
