Château Clos Rene, located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France, is one of the oldest wineries in the region. Its earliest historical records date back to the 18th century; the winery was founded in 1734 and initially used the name "Reney." In 1880, Clos Rene slightly modified its label design, adding a drawing of the original winery building. For a considerable period in the 1940s, the winery was owned and managed by Pierre Lasserre. Today, Château Clos Rene is jointly owned by the Garde and Lasserre families.

Clos Rene was one of the last wineries in the Pomerol appellation to begin in-house bottling. In the early 20th century, many Pomerol wineries transported their finished wines to designated bottling facilities in large oak barrels, where they were bottled by specialized companies. By 1970, this practice had largely disappeared, with wineries increasingly bottling on-site. Clos Rene, however, didn't begin in-house bottling until the mid-to-late 1990s.

Clos Rene currently owns 12 hectares of vineyards, with 70% planted with Merlot, 20% with Cabernet Franc, and 10% with Malbec. This 10% Malbec vineyard makes Clos Rene the largest Malbec grower in Pomerol and even the right bank of Bordeaux. The average age of the vines is 35 years, with a planting density of 5,500 vines per hectare. The soil is primarily gravelly and sandy loam, containing some iron minerals.

Clos Rene uses traditional temperature-controlled cement fermentation tanks with malolactic fermentation. The resulting wine is aged for approximately 18 months in 25% new French oak barrels before bottling at the winery. The Clos Rene Pomerol from the winery is full-bodied, with rich fruit aromas and complex layers, exhibiting flavors of ripe berries, toast, tobacco, and coffee. The tannins are silky smooth, and the wine is well-balanced.
