Chateau Branaire Ducru

Chateau Branaire Ducru In the 17th century, it was part of the fourth-growth Chateau Beychevelle. Later, it was sold to Jean-Baptiste Braneyre. Braneyre's daughter, Marie, married Pierre de Luc, from whom the name Duluc originated. Descendants built a castle to commemorate their ancestors and named the estate Chateau Branaire. It was classified as a fourth-growth in 1855. In 1875, Gustave Ducru and his sister Zelie Ravez jointly managed the estate. Gustave later acquired his sister's shares, becoming the sole owner. After Gustave's death in 1879, the estate reverted to Zelie and was renamed Chateau Branaire-Ducru. In 1899, Zelie passed the estate to her three nephews, and the family continued to manage the winery, the crown on the label representing the members at that time. After Jean-Michel Tapie acquired the entire estate in 1919, its management was unsuccessful until Patrick Maroteaux purchased it in 1988, at which point things improved. The estate now adheres to traditional winemaking methods, emphasizing terroir. It also produces a second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, to maintain a consistent level of quality.

Duluc de Branaire Ducru is made by blending grapes from young vines harvested at an earlier stage and planted at higher densities to enhance flavor. Strict yield control is exercised over the young vines. The wine undergoes temperature-controlled malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for approximately 21 days, followed by aging in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with about 60 to 65% of the barrels being new. The finished wine exhibits an elegant and modern style, balanced and delicious, and shares similarities with the estate's flagship wine.

Château Branaire Ducru wines are renowned for their aromatic, intense, powerful, and elegant characteristics. While they lean towards fruity styles, aging for 5-15 years is necessary to fully reveal their true structure and power. For those wishing to experience the estate's winemaking techniques and terroir at an earlier stage, the second label, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, is an excellent choice.

At a charity auction, one of the attendees was the renowned novelist Jin Yong, who named a bottle of Chateau Branaire-Ducru 2000 at the auction "Zhou Botong." His character embodies extraordinary martial arts skills, an optimistic and carefree nature, perfectly matching the unique character of this fine wine.
