ZTCH012-VIK Millahue Cachapoal Valley Rouge 2021
$840/btl

VIK Millahue refers to top-tier wines produced by Viña Vik, a Chilean winery located in the unique Millahue Valley (meaning "Golden Land") within Chile's Cachapoal Valley. Founded by Alexander Vik, the winery is renowned for its distinctive terroir, top-notch team (including experts from Château Pavie and Château Margaux), and quality comparable to the world's top five wineries. It offers a range of complex, layered, and sophisticated red wines that blend Old and New World styles, such as the flagship VIK and VIK A.

Cachapoal Valley, a key sub-region of Chile's Central Valley, is renowned for its high-quality red wines, particularly elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and fruit-infused Carmenère, often exhibiting chocolate and jelly-like flavors. These wines combine Bordeaux-style French winemaking techniques with Chilean terroir. Located near the Andes Mountains, the region boasts diverse climate and soil conditions, attracting numerous French wineries to collaborate or establish wineries, making it a distinctive area within Chile's wine region.

Chief winemaker Cristian Vallejo oversees viticulture and winemaking at Viña Vik, emphasizing hand-harvesting of grapes during the cooler nighttime temperatures.
Viña Vik owns 4,500 hectares of land, but only 386 hectares are planted with vines, primarily Bordeaux varieties. Under ideal conditions, they produce mature, restrained, balanced, and elegant world-class wines. Lin Yusen, one of the best wine authors in the Chinese-speaking world, praised it in his book: "Chilean Merlot has always had a rugged character, quite different from the mainstream international style. Viña Vik, with its rich viticultural experience, breaks with tradition, using rootstocks to create a delicate and mellow Merlot, giving blended wines a more elegant and refined texture that deeply moves the heart!"
Intense graphite with fresh lavender, thyme, rosemary and blackcurrant notes. Hints of decadence. Iodine and mussel undertones. Full-bodied with superb intensity and silky tannins that grow on the palate, showing great length that goes on for minutes. Truly great depth. 77% cabernet franc and 23% cabernet sauvignon. Best ever. This needs five to seven years to come together.
【Wine Spectator 95 pts】
Refined and elegant, but with structure and density underneath. Offers fresh and persistent aromas of graphite, wild thyme and brambly raspberry that fold over onto the palate, where chocolate-covered cherry, cassis and fresh tobacco chime in. Everything is buoyed by fresh, minerally acidity that drives the flavors on the finish around well-formed tannins and a lingering berry note.
