Pfalz is located in southwestern Germany, on the border with France. It is also the second largest wine producing region in Germany, after Rheinhessen. Produce 60% white wine and 40% red wine respectively. Compared with other regions in Germany, it can produce Riesling wine with a strong body and mainly dry type.

Terrior

The 675-meter-high Haadt mountains have had a similar effect on Pfalz as the Vosges have on Alsace. The rain shadow effect is formed, so that the region has a relatively warm and dry climate with abundant sunshine. As a result, Pfalz wines (especially Riesling) are more intense than wines from other cool, humid regions of Germany (e.g. Mosel, Nache). All of the top vineyards are located in the narrow strip at the foot of the mountain. In addition to grapes, it is also rich in figs, lemons, apricots and other crops.

Major grape variety

Riesling
It has the characteristics of relatively cold tolerance and early maturity. Generally, wines made from Riesling have lower alcohol content than other grape varieties. However, the Riesling produced by Pfalz is fuller and has a higher alcohol content (about 12%) than other regions.

Gewürztraminer
Gewürztraminer is well known in Alsace, France, near Pfalz. However, it is said that the hometown of Gewürztraminer is Pfalz, which is another variant of grape Traminer. Gewürztramine is characterized by aromas full of lychee, ginger flower, and some have a peppery smell.

Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
It is the most dominant red grape variety in the whole of Germany. In Pfalz, a relatively full-bodied Pinot Noir can be brewed, full of red fruit aromas.

Dornfelder
It is the second most planted red grape variety in Germany. It has thick skins and can resist the invasion of Botrytis cinerea. It has a very aromatic floral aroma and a silky taste.

Deidesheim

Located in the north of the town of Neustad, it is a well-known village in the region, known as the important town of Pfalz's top wine. The local area is located at the foot of the Haadt Mountains, which is more affected by the rain shadow effect. The local Spätburgunder and Riesling wines are especially high quality.
