Pomerol
Bordeaux has the fewest appellations, but the highest average wine price
Pomerol is the smallest of Bordeaux's wine regions, with less than 800 hectares under vine, dwarfed by its neighbour St Emilion's 5,000 hectares. The land in the production area is long and narrow, with more than 100 wineries. Each winery is not too large, and the smallest is only 2 hectares. These inherent conditions determine that Pomerol can only produce small-volume but high-quality wines. Everything is valuable because it is rare. Since the production area is small, the production volume is naturally lower. If the quality of the wine is high, the price will naturally be high. The wine from the Pomerol production area achieves this.
The products of the famous winery in Pomerol are definitely more expensive than the classified growths on the left bank of Bordeaux. The red wines of Chateau Petrus, Le Pin, etc. are twice as expensive as Chateau Lafite. The most important thing about wine is the terroir. Pomerol has a small area, so the terroir of the entire production area is roughly the same. Therefore, the red wine produced in the entire Pomerol is of very high quality and the price is not too low. The Pomerol region is located west of St Emilion, between the Barbanne and Taillas rivers. There is a small highland on the edge of the production area. The soil is mainly gravel-clay, so it is also the production area of high-quality wine. Moreover, the clay bottom layer (crasse de fer) here is rich in iron, which makes the red wine produced in Pomerol unique in aroma, full in taste, and full of fresh fruity aroma.
