Château d’ Armailhac

Since the winery was owned by the Mouton Rothscild family in 1933, its quality has improved day by day. When brewing, the winery uses one-third of new oak barrels for cultivation, trying to give the wine a delicate and elegant flavor through the oxygen permeation process cultivated in the barrel, and balance the rich and strong tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This situation is in line with the "person" in terroir. The winery and Château Clerc-Milon are sister wineries, and the wine label of Château d' Armailhac is Bacchus, the god of wine in childhood. Some people use "one person dancing alone" and "two people dancing together" to refer to these two wines.

History

Chateau d’Armailhac dates back to 1890 in the Mouton d’Armailhacq vineyard. Mouton d’Armailhacq was listed as a fifth growth in 1855. During the First World War, the winery faced difficulties for a while and managed to tide over the difficulties. In 1931, the founder’s adopted son, Comte Adrien de Ferrand, founded the Societe Anonyme du Domaine de Mouton d’Armailhacq. One of the shareholders, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, later purchased all the shares in 1933 and became the owner of the estate. Since then, the winery has been owned by the Rothschild family. From 1956 to 1988, the name of the winery was named Mouton Baron Philippe after the Baron. In 1989, it was renamed Chateau d’Armailhac again.

Geographic location

At present, the winery's vineyards are distributed in the north of Pauillac, with an area of about 70 hectares, planted with 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc ) and 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of vines in the garden is 46 years, and the planting density is 10,000 vines/ha. It is worth mentioning that about 20% of the vines in the garden can be traced back to 1890.

In addition, the winery will determine the best planting varieties for each plot according to the characteristics of the soil. The gravel soil is mainly suitable for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Vineyard soils on the Plateau de Petit Pibran have a clay-limestone base covered with deep gravel, giving the wines a fine and elegant character; while Le Croupe de Behere is The soil is mainly light gravel, and the soil layer is as deep as 3 meters.

Rothschild family

Château d’ Armaihac belongs to the same  Rothschild family as Château Mouton Rothschild. The winemaking team is quite rigorous, and will brew different grape varieties in different plots separately, and the brewing method will be adjusted according to the different characteristics of each year. After careful selection and destemming, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for several weeks. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, of which 25% are new barrels.

In addition, the winery will carry out Stirring every three months, and this process will continue until the glue is lowered. The amount of egg white used for Fining is also determined by the laboratory after testing. Throughout the winemaking process, the cellar master, winemaker and laboratory team taste and analyze the wine in each barrel on a daily basis, keeping a close eye on their changes and development.
