Château Malartic - Lagravière

Built in the 18th century, it was named Domaine de Lagraviere. By the end of the 18th century, the winery was acquired by the Malartic family. One member of the Malartic family was a French admiral. This admiral served in the Anglo-French wars, especially in 1756. He made great achievements in the battle. In 1850, Madame Arnaud Ricard purchased this winery. In order to commemorate General Malartic and the Malartic family, she added the name Malartic to the name of the winery. Since then, Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere has replaced the original name of the winery and has been in use to this day. Moreover, a picture of a sailing warship is used as the wine bottle on the bottle. mark.

Until 1990, Malartic Winery was managed by the Ricard family. In 1901, the domaine was passed to Angele Ricard and later to her granddaughter Simone, who later married the domaine’s manager, Jacques Marly. He managed Malartic Winery from 1947 to 1990 and was the last descendant of the Ricard family to run the winery. In 1990, Malartic Winery was sold to the Perrier family. In the seven years since they purchased Malartic Winery, the Perrier family has not made many changes to it.

At the end of 1996, the winery changed hands again, this time being taken over by a Belgian couple, Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie and Michele Bonnie. With the addition of the Bonnie family, the winery carried out further innovations with sufficient funds, doubling the vineyard area and replacing all winemaking equipment with modern equipment. The winery currently employs excellent winemaking consultants Michel Rolland and Athanase Fakorellis to work in the winery.

The vineyard

The vineyard is approximately 73 hectares (180 acres), of which 66 hectares (163 acres) are used to grow red grapes, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (Petit Verdot); the remaining 7 hectares (17 acres) are used for growing white grapes Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

Drawing on years of experience and knowledge in winemaking, and taking it to the next level in the pursuit of excellence, the plots are worked with great precision, respecting their specificity in order to get the best from each terroir. Effect. This allows the winery to successfully grow full, ripe, high-quality grapes, creating wines with fragrant, fruity, rich and deep wines.

Wine making process

The winery uses all manual operations without exception. After the grapes are picked by hand, they are put into large barrels for fermentation. The new owner, the Bonnie family, made a new round of investment and expansion of the winery. They built a new fermentation room and wine cellar designed by Bernard Mazieres, and installed 20 stainless steel fermentation tanks and 10 oak fermentation tanks required for fermentation. , the temperature of all fermentation processes needs to be strictly controlled. After alcoholic fermentation and blending, the red wine is aged in oak barrels. 50-70% of new barrels are used every year. The oak barrel maturation period takes 22 months. White wine uses 40-60% new barrels every year, and the oak barrel maturation period takes 15 months. Before bottling, egg whites are used for clarification.

A comprehensive agroecological vision

The winery has maintained a strict ecological commitment since 1997 and adopts sustainable practices that respect the entire ecosystem. And protect the soil through reduced, measured human intervention and respect for all forms of life. The vineyard has been certified as "Permaculture" since 2008, "High Environmental Value" since 2015, "Option A (Individual)" since 2021, and ISO 14001 through EMS, which is A corporate social responsibility program starting in 2021.
