With its natural beauty, incredible wine riches and enough great restaurants to keep the fussiest gourmet traveller happy, McLaren Vale is one of Australia’s most exciting wine regions.

At the end of 1839, William Colton and Charles Thomas Hewett from Devonshire, England immigrated here and became the earliest settlers in the area. William Colton founded "Daringa Farm" and Charles Thomas Hewett founded "Oxenberry Farm", which played a vital role in the early agricultural development of the production area and also played a role in promoting the development of the local grape growing industry.

Although the local economic crops in the 19th century were mainly cereals, grape cultivation gradually developed on a small scale. In 1838, John Reynell and Thomas Hardy cultivated the first grapevines in the production area. These grapevines are more than 100 years old, and some grapevines are still producing grapes today. The current Seaview and Hardy distilleries also began operations in 1850. Today, there are more than 88 wineries in the production area,

In addition, under the greenhouse effect, McLaren Vale or perhaps the whole of Australia is looking for other new varieties that can adapt to the local climate. This makes in addition to the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Grenache and some Bordeaux varieties, Italy, Spain, Portugal and even Greek and other southern European grape varieties have found their place here.

What's more, the new generation of winemakers does not necessarily adhere to traditional brewing techniques or make slight style changes (American barrels are gradually replaced by French barrels), but further subverts traditional styles. More and more winemakers are Advocating nature, they are gradually using organic and biodynamic methods to manage vineyards. More and more people are willing to use native yeast fermentation during brewing. At the same time, they do not overuse oak barrels to add the flavor of wine. A variety of fermentation and maturation containers are used in wines in this category.

The result is that McLaren Vale's wine styles are more diverse, including the traditional soft, oak-flavored Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, as well as new styles such as soft and juicy, which are gradually transformed. At the same time, grape varieties in southern Europe may not necessarily produce the same flavor as the original place of production. This is an interesting issue.

The region's most famous wines are soft, full-bodied red wines with aromas of ripe berries and chocolate and fine tannins. Shiraz is the main variety in the region, and red wines made from it can emit raspberry and black olive aromas; while wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon are rich and plump with blueberry flavors. ; The wine made from high-quality Grenache old vine grapes is very juicy. In addition, cooler vineyards also produce Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
