Saint-Estèphe is one of the four sub-regions of Bordeaux Haut-Medoc (Upper Medoc). Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are mainly planted locally, and a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are also planted. The production area covers an area of 1229 hectares. The soil is quite diverse, mainly clay, gravel and limestone. Due to the cool climate and the high drainage of the soil, the grapes take a long time to ripen. In the 1855 winery rating, 5 wineries were selected. Famous wineries include: Chateau Calon Segur (Caronse Castle, with a big love pattern printed on the wine label, commonly known as love wine), Chateau Montrose (Rose Hill), Chateau Cos d'Estournel, Chateau Cos Labory and Chateau Lafon- Rochet. In addition, there are also many Cru Bourgeois wineries, and the scale of the wineries is smaller than that of neighboring production areas.

Wines made in Saint-Estèphe are darker in color, high in acidity, full-bodied, with strong tannins, often accompanied by a hint of earth. It is the most vigorous and powerful wine in the entire Bordeaux region, and it is even dubbed "man's wine". However, this year, many wineries have increased the blending ratio of Merlot, and the lighter and softer taste has made it more acceptable to more people. The aging potential is as high as 5-50 years, and it will become smooth and delicious after aging. The wine is usually aged for 6-18 months in oak barrels. Best paired with red meat.
