Chateau Pavie Macquin

Premier Grand Cru Classe B

Chateau Pavie Macquin is a producer in the Saint-Émilion appellation with B Grand Cru status. It is currently owned by the Corre-Macquin family. In the Saint-Emilion classification review, the winery was promoted from the grand crus to the first class grand crus B. In 2012, the new classification maintained Pavie Macquin's top grand crus B status.

History

Pavie Macquin The eponymous castle was founded by the illustrious Albert Macquin (1852-1911).

From 1887, the winery acquired Château La Serre, Peygenestou (5 hectares), Pavie-Chapus (3.7 hectares), Pavie-Pigasse 5.7 hectares)...a total of about 26 hectares, and then constituted the Pavie-Macquin winery.

Terroir

The Pavie Macquin vineyards are characterized by their location on the plateau, next to the Mondot Knoll, on the edge of the Fongaban fault. Judging by its dominance, its elevation ranges from 100 meters at the edge of the hills to 75 meters at the edge of the plateau. It is surrounded by three top Grands Crus and is therefore in a particularly premium area.

The soils are all clay-limestone, expressing different concepts of terroir in the vines, according to the nature of the more or less firm clay, but also according to the proximity of the limestone terraces to the starfish (depths between 20 cm and 1.50 m). Pavie Macquin is strength meets minerals.

Nowadays

The current owners of the winery, the Corre family, are descendants of Albert Macquin, but the winery is entrusted to be managed by Nicolas Thienpont, the owner of Vieux Chateau Certan, and Stéphane Derenoncourt, a young winemaker who was not well-known at the time, was hired in 1990. In the hands of the overflowing winemakers, the winery has been pushed into the most glorious era in history. The winery has 15 hectares of vineyards planted with black grapes, the proportion of varieties is 85 % Merlot, 14 % Cabernet Franc and 1 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Due to the shallow topsoil of the vineyard, the bottom layer is a limestone layer, which allows the wine to have excellent acidity. The excellent performance of the winery in the past 20 years has allowed it to enter the list of top wineries (Grand Cru Classé) for the first time in 2006, and was promoted to Premiers Grands Crus Classes B in 2012! Now the style of Pavie-Macquin has a very ripe sweet black cherry fruit aroma, rich and powerful wine, fine and round tannins, and beautiful acidity. It is often described as a good Burgundy red wine, which has attracted many wines. The hobby of wine fans can be described as a dark horse that has rapidly become popular in recent years.
